Form spam protection

The enquiries you get are real ones

Spam is stopped at the form, before a submission exists, with nothing for your customer to solve. What reaches you is what is worth your time.

The filter

Your email has a spam filter. Your forms do not.

Filtering happens in the form itself, invisibly, before a submission exists.

  • Nobody has ever solved a puzzle to read their inbox. Forms never got the same treatment.
  • No widget, no checkbox, no traffic lights. Your customer sends the enquiry and it arrives.

Your numbers

Junk never reaches the numbers you spend against.

A fake enquiry that gets counted makes the channel that produced it look better than it is.

The network

Caught once, recognised everywhere.

Spam caught on one site running Lead Source is recognised across every site running it.

  • A plugin only knows what has happened on your own site. A pattern has to reach you before it can be stopped.
  • We see it once, somewhere, and it is already known by the time it arrives at your form.

Control

Held, not deleted.

For whatever still gets through, suspected spam is quarantined, not deleted.

  • It is held in a separate view, excluded from lead counts and from attribution, and reviewable whenever you want.
  • Restore one and it rejoins your leads with its source and page journey intact.

What is form spam protection?

Form spam protection is what decides whether a website form submission is a real enquiry before it reaches you. It is the same job an email spam filter does, applied to the point where your leads actually arrive. It works because the checks live in the form, which is why it comes with a Lead Source form rather than being added to one you already have. Which method stops what, and where each one gives up, is compared method by method.

Most tools in this space stop at blocking. The part that matters more for a business buying marketing is what happens to the junk it catches. A submission that is silently deleted might have been a customer. A submission that is let through gets counted as a lead, attaches to a source, and changes where next month’s budget goes. Lead Source quarantines instead: held, excluded from your numbers, and one click from being restored with its source and page journey intact.

This is a different job from keeping submitted data safe. Security is about protecting what a real customer sends you, and that is covered in secure forms. Spam protection is about whether the enquiry was real in the first place.

One setting is worth being careful with. You can block free email domains, and for a B2B business where every real customer has a company address, that removes a category of junk at no cost. For a plumber, an HVAC business or a pest control company, most real customers use Gmail or Outlook, and switching it on rejects genuine jobs alongside the spam. The enquiries you lose leave no trace, which is why it is off by default and why most service businesses should leave it that way.

Common questions

Form spam, answered.

What happens to a form submission flagged as spam?

It is quarantined, not deleted. It is held in a separate view, excluded from your lead counts and your attribution, and you can review it whenever you want. Restore one and it rejoins your leads with its source and page journey intact.

Do my visitors have to solve anything?

No. Filtering happens in the form itself, invisibly. A captcha is available if you want one, but it is off by default.

Will this block real customers?

Anything flagged is held rather than deleted, so a mistake costs you a click instead of a job. The one setting that will cost you real enquiries is blocking free email domains, which is why it is off by default and why we recommend most service businesses leave it off.

Does spam affect my lead reporting?

Not once it is filtered. Quarantined submissions are excluded from lead counts, source totals and cost per lead. A fake enquiry that reaches your reporting makes the channel that produced it look better than it is.

How is this different from a captcha plugin?

A captcha asks whether a human is present. It cannot tell you whether the enquiry is real, and it cannot recognise a pattern that has already been caught on another site. It also does nothing about what the junk does to your lead numbers once it gets through.

Do I need to set this up on each form?

No. The checks come with a Lead Source form, so there is nothing to switch on per form. It does not extend to forms built in another tool: Lead Source has no code inside those, and cannot stop a submission it never sees until after it exists.

Know that every enquiry is worth opening.

Spam stopped at the form, and never counted in your numbers.
