All figures read from each vendor’s pricing page, September 2026.

Where each one is genuinely strongest

Jotform: breadth. Tens of thousands of templates, an enormous widget library, PDF tooling, approval flows, and HIPAA options on the Gold tier. If you need a form for an unusual use case fast, Jotform has it.

Typeform: design and completion. The one-question-at-a-time interface is still the best in the category for long surveys where drop-off matters, and the brand polish is real.

Tally: the free plan. Unlimited forms and submissions with logic, payments, signatures and file uploads included is not matched by anyone at any price point near it.

Where each one will frustrate you

Jotform: the meters. Form count, monthly submissions, form views, storage and a lifetime submission cap all run at once, and whichever fills first decides your tier. Hitting any of them disables every form in the account.

Typeform: the free plan is a demonstration. Ten responses a month will not survive a week of a live contact form, and branding removal is three tiers up at $56 a month.

Tally: the editor is functional rather than polished, and there is no conversational flow. For long surveys where completion rate is the whole game, that is a real cost.

Which one to pick, in one line each.

Pick Jotform if

You need template breadth, unusual form types, or compliance features, and your volume is low enough that 100 submissions a month is not a constraint.

Pick Typeform if

Form design and completion rate are worth paying for, and you are budgeting for Basic or Plus from the start rather than trying to run on the free tier.

Pick Tally if

You want a capable form builder that stays free as your volume grows, and you can live without a conversational layout.

The thing none of them do

All three record what a person typed. None of them records how that person found you.

If your forms exist to bring in business, the submission is only half the information. The other half is the source, the campaign and the pages the person read before deciding to enquire, and that half is what tells you which marketing to fund. It sits outside the form builder category entirely. Lead Source captures it on every submission from any of these three tools, free on one site.

The per-tool setup is on Jotform lead tracking, Typeform lead tracking and Tally lead tracking. Choosing the form itself rather than tracking one you have? Lead capture software is the place to start.

Leaving one of them? Free alternatives to Jotform and free alternatives to Typeform go deeper on each.
