Lead source in Close.
Connect marketing source to sales activity. The missing piece in Close.
Works with Close’s setup
Close is sales-first. Attribution is a side note.
Close was built to make sales reps move faster. The product earns its loyalty by removing friction from calling, emailing, and tracking conversations. Lead source data has never been central to that, and it shows in how the data is captured (lightly) and how reps treat it (as something to skip past).
The sales motion
- Close native HTML forms (recent)
- Lead and Opportunity custom fields
- Workflows triggered by form submissions
- Pipeline and opportunity tracking
- Tight sales activity integration
The marketing side
- Native attribution is minimal by design
- No built-in UTM capture from form submissions
- No cross-page session tracking
- Manual rep entry for Lead Source values
- “Web form” is as detailed as the source gets natively
Custom fields. Manual entry. Hoping reps remember.
The standard fix for Close attribution is the same fix for every CRM that wasn’t built with marketing in mind: custom fields, hidden form inputs, and process discipline that sales teams routinely sidestep. Most orgs give up after a few months.
The manual way
- 01Add custom Lead fields for each campaign value and wire them into your Close form.
- 02Build a script on your form pages to fill them in before every submission.
- 03Build something to receive Close’s submissions and update your reporting, or skip it and live with disconnected data.
- 04Train the sales team to leave those fields alone when editing Leads. Re-train them every quarter when someone clears the data accidentally.
With Lead Source
- Add Lead Source to one Close workflow that runs on form submission. Once.
- Each time a Close native form is sent, it arrives in Lead Source with the source and campaign attached when it can be tied to a visit, and marked Direct when it cannot.
- The campaign is spelled out in full, as in “Google Ads · Local Services Sydney”, and turns up in both your dashboard and your inbox.
- To have it on the Close Lead too, the source lands on the custom Lead field you choose.

One step in one Close workflow. That’s the whole thing.
Your account comes with its own Lead Source link. It goes into one Close workflow that runs on form submission, and from then on each native form fill arrives in Lead Source.
Signing up generates your link, and the integrations page in your dashboard is where to copy it.
Three steps, one Close workflow.
Sign up. Get your Lead Source link
Open a free Lead Source account and go to the integrations page. Your link is waiting there. Copy it for step two.
Add Lead Source to a Close workflow
In Close, add one step to a workflow that runs on form submission, pointing at your Lead Source link. Save and activate.
Submit a test through any Close native form
Pick any Close native HTML form and send it as a prospect would. Moments later the Lead appears in Lead Source with its source and campaign.
Close questions, answered.
Will Lead Source conflict with Close native forms?
No. Lead Source uses the route Close itself provides for native form submissions, and only reads a copy of each one. The form, the submission and the Lead record are left exactly as they were, and Close carries on creating Leads as normal while Lead Source keeps the source next to them.
Can I get the source onto a custom Close Lead field?
Yes. The source lands on the custom Close Lead field you choose, so your Close reports can use it. Lead Source never writes to Close by itself.
Does it work with forms that are not Close native forms?
Yes, with a different install. The one-line site install covers forms on your own site, such as Typeform or Jotform feeding Close. The Close workflow covers Close native forms. Both routes end with the lead and its source in Lead Source.
Will it create duplicate Leads in Close?
No. Lead Source never creates or modifies anything in Close by itself. When you send the source on to Close, Close's own duplicate rules decide what happens.
Where does the source data live?
In Lead Source. Because it is not stored in Close, rep edits, merges and workflow changes cannot overwrite it.
